Gastronomic tours in Armenia

2 Days/3 Nights

All departures are from Yerevan.

The tour pick-up schedule may change depending on arrival time.

 Arrival to Yerevan, meeting in Zvartnots airport, transfer to hotel.    

Day 1: Shuttle tour through Yerevan.

Departure at 9:00.

- Victory Park (Haghtanak Zbosaygi).

- Mathenadaran – unique museum of Ancient Manuscripts with original collection of over 20.000 books and miniature paintings.

- Cascade – architectural monument in the center of the city that now houses the “Cafesjian” Center for Modern Arts.

- We start our gastronomic tour at “Ararat Hall” Restaurant with degustation of Armenian dishes made by Chair of Armenian Cooks' Association, Sedrak Mamulyan. Chief cook will hold master-class for making any Armenian traditional dish.  Menu of hot dishes: “Prtosh” (beef baked with vegetables), “Ararat” (fried beef in creamy-brandy sauce with rice and dry fruit as garnish).

- “Ararat” brandy company. After an exciting tour one may enjoy the degustation of 3 types of brandy, including “Dvin” vintage cognac (Churchill’s favorite brand)

- Rest in hotel  

- Dinner, accompanied by folk music and dance, in traditional Armenian Restaurant “Tavern Yerevan”.   

- Menu of hot dishes: “Ishli kufta” (fricandels made of minced beef, stuffed with chopped beef, garnish– spelt wheat with white mushrooms), dolma (stuffed cabbage or grape leaves).

Day 2: Pagan temple of Garni, Geghard Monastery, “Yerevan” Central Market, visit to “Megeryan” carpet factory.

Departure at 10:00

Eastward tour, total 30 km

- Garni (I cen. A.D.), the only pagan temple on the territory of former USSR. The temple is located on the picturesque valley of Azat lake. Since III century B.C. Garni used to serve as summer residence of Armenian kings (UNESCO heritage). A little concert with duduk (national instrument) is included in the tour.

- Geghard (IV- XIII cen.), unique medieval Monastery partially carved in a cliff. Great complex, where the lance used by the roman soldier to sting Jesus Christ's side, was kept for six centuries (UNESCO heritage).

- Lunch in a private house or a restaurant, with baking national bread – lavash. Here the opportunity will be given to enjoy making tandir barbeque. Degustation of home-made vodka – mulberry, apricot, grapes.

- Return to Yerevan.

- “Yerevan” Central Market. Here one will have a chance to taste local sweets (dry fruits, citron, dried apricot, churchhela, dry fruit stuffed with wall-nut, hazelnut, almond)

- Visit to “Megeryan” carpet factory. After a short tour through the factory dinner will be organized in the exhibition hall. This is an exceptional opportunity to take part in the master-class of some Armenian dishes, held by one of the best chief cooks of Armenia. 

- Transfer to the airport, flight from Zvartnots airport.  

 

3 Days/4 Nights

Day 3: Resort town of Dilijan, Lake Sevan, visit to “Megeryan” carpet factory

Departure at 10:00       

Northward tour, total 150 km

- Taking the direction to the Resort town of Dilijan. Walk around Old Dilijan, stop at the monument of the main characters of the film “Mimino”

- Lake Sevan, fascinating lake of volcanic origin situated about 1900 m. above sea level.  Sevanavank Monastery and the ruins of St. Harutyun Church (IV- IX cen.) are located on the peninsula in the north-western part of Sevan Lake.

- Lunch in a restaurant on the shores of Sevan Lake. Menu of hot dishes – Sevan trout (baked on fire or fried), crawfish kebab, fried eggs with crayfish tails.

- Return to Yerevan

- Rest in hotel

Day 4: Khor Virap Monastery, Armenian winery in Areni village, Noravank Monastery

Departure at 10:00. 

Southward tour, total 280km. 

- Khor Virap Monastery (VII-XVII centuries) - the most famous pilgrimage site in Armenia, as it is directly connected with adoption of Christianity. Built over the dungeon of St. Gregory the Illuminator, it still serves as a place of pilgrimage for faithful people of Armenian apostolic Church.

- Family winery in Areni village with degustation of wine made of local sorts of grapes and fruit (pomegranate, apricot, peach). One may also enjoy home-made fruit vodka.

- Noravank Monastery (IX-XIV centuries) – Located on Amagu valley, this Monastery makes an eye-captivating scene of harmony of architecture with nature. The monastery, enshrined with fine architectural solutions of medieval Armenian architect Momik, is one of the brightest examples of Armenian architecture

- Lunch in “Lchak” Restaurant on Arpa riverside.  Menu of hot dishes: beef and poultry kebab, karmrakhayt (local river-trout boiled or baked on fire). Armenian national pie “gata”, bake by your participation, will be served for dessert.  

- Return to Yerevan.

- Off night.

- Transfer to the airport, flight from Zvartnots airport.
